Inaugural Meeting

The first meeting was to discuss how the book club was to work. We met up at Secret Recipe, Taman Desa. I had cake. Yummy.

The discussion as usually wandered far and wide, including this spoof video of the Great Escape by Gwen Stefani. Among the books that were up for discussion include:
1. God Delusion by Richard Dawkins.
2. Perfume: The Story of a Murder by Patrick Suskind
3. Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret by Judy Blume
4. 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez (author) and Gregory Rabassa (Translator)
5. East of Eden by John Steinbeck
6. Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie
7. Gilead by Marilynne Robinson - which David will borrow from Limmy.
8. Animal Farm by George Orwell
9. American Gods by Neil Gaiman
10. The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
11. The Shipping News by E. Annie Proulx
12. Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides.

Since there were only 3 of us attending, we have decided to read 2 books from the above. Up for discussion will be Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides sometime in mid-July 2007 at a location to be decided by WaiPing. In the following month, probably in mid August 2007 we will be discussing Gilead by Marilynne Robinson.

Animal Farm should be easy enough to find.

I think Azhar should be the first on rotation. It is his idea after all.

Books, I've got a good mix of books that are easy to read and take less than a month to finish:
1. The Tesseract by Alex Garland
2. Animal Farm by George Orwell
3. American Gods by Neil Gaiman

I have all the books above except for Animal Farm.

Anyone has a copy of "The Tesseract" then? I don't think that's so easily available as (2) and (3).

Hey what happened to Gilead. I have not even started on that. Sheesh! Should I get the book?
